A Historic Century Puts Ananda in Command

The 96th Battle of the Maroons annual cricket encounter between Ananda College and Nalanda College began on February 27 at the SSC Grounds. By the end of the first day, Ananda College had taken firm control of the match, scoring 325 runs for 5 wickets.

1. A Historic Ton by Edirimanne

​Ananda College captain Kithma Vithanapathirana won the toss and elected to bat first. The standout performance of the day came from Ananda’s opening batsman, Nethula Edirimanne. He batted flawlessly to score an unbeaten 150 runs off 254 balls, hitting 14 fours and 1 six. This impressive innings made history, setting a new record for the highest individual score in the 96 years of the Battle of the Maroons. Edirimanne was well supported by Ovin Perera, who added a quick 53 runs off 79 balls to keep the scoreboard moving and maintain the pressure on the fielding side.

2.Tough Day For Nalanda

​It was a challenging day for the Nalanda College bowlers. Nalanda captain Osanda Pamuditha was the standout performer with the ball, taking 2 wickets for 60 runs. Fellow bowlers Dunitha Anusara and Hasitha Rathnayake chipped in with one wicket each.

​At the end of Day One, Ananda College stands in a very strong position. The match will resume tomorrow at the SSC Cricket Stadium.
